white soft window treatment

3 Benefits of Window Treatments

If we want to enhance the beauty and functionality of our windows there are a variety of options to choose from. Soft window treatments like roman shades and curtains or hard window treatments like shutters and blinds offer more than just beauty and aesthetic appeal. Below is a list of how window design goes beyond appearance to function and purpose in numerous ways.

Benefits of Having Window Treatments

Privacy
Hard window treatments and soft window treatments offer refuge away from the outside world that create a private setting for our most important and special life moments. Whether we want to sip coffee quietly in the morning or watch a late-night movie without curious eyes looking in, roman shades and curtains are some options that can prevent prying eyes from watching every move we make. They can provide us with a more secluded environment with which to live our lives, privately.
Sun and UV Protection
The elements of nature, including sunlight, ultraviolet rays, rain, and snow can all be blocked out with proper window design and using window treatments. If we want to protect the furnishings, art, and flooring of our interior from sun damage, we can use hard window treatments or soft window treatments to achieve this. Shutters and blinds from a variety of materials can work to protect the interior of a home from UV light and damage.
Energy Efficiency
Correct window design as well as using window treatments can create a more efficient means of climate control. If we are running the air conditioning during the hot summer months, we can keep heat out and cold inside. During the winter months, they offer the same protection of keeping the cold elements out and the warmth inside. This energy efficiency can create a consistently comfortable interior while saving money on heating and air conditioning costs. Generally, soft window treatments will be better than no window treatments, and hard window treatments will be the best option for this purpose.
In Conclusion
While the need for window treatments may appear to be primarily that of beauty and decorative purposes, we can see that they have functionality that goes way beyond their appearance. No room with proper interior design elements would be complete without proper window design and window treatments. From providing privacy and protection against curious individuals or mother nature to climate control and cost efficiency, hard window treatments and soft window treatments clearly have some very important functions. Everything You Need To Know About Blind Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning the house one of the most overlooked parts of the home that often doesn’t get touched are the window blinds. These are overlooked as they are small items that most people tend not to put an emphasis on or think that it could get dirty. However, if blinds are left untreated then dust, pet fur, and other skin cells can pile up on them and make a room feel musty. The good thing is that blinds are not that difficult to clean at all, the thing is that you just need to know how to properly clean them depending on what they are made of.

Tools For Cleaning Blinds

For blind cleaning, there is no “best” way to clean them as long as you have the proper tools it will depend on how much dust has accumulated or how soiled the blinds are. For proper tools, you will want to have the following:

  • A vacuum cleaner with an attachment.
  • Microfiber cloths or a microfiber blind duster.

Using a Microfiber Mini Blind Duster

If you have a blind duster then you will want to do the following in order to successfully clean your blinds.

  1. Leave blinds in the open position and run the duster along with them from top to bottom. It is a good idea to start from the top so that way any dust that falls off will be removed as you make your way down to the bottom.
  2. Once you have finished with the duster, look at the floor to make sure there isn’t any dust on the floor underneath the blinds.

Using a Microfiber Cloth

If you rather opt for a microfiber cloth then you should do the following:

  1.  You first want to close the blinds so that the concave side is facing you and wipe away the dust from top to bottom. As mentioned before you will want to start at the top of the blind and work your way down.
  2. Turn the rod until the blinds are closed with the convex side towards you. Dust this with the cloth from top to bottom like with the concave side.
  3. Vacuum any dust that has fallen to the floor after dusting.

How To Clean Blinds That Are Heavily Soiled

Sometimes with blinds, it is not just dust that you have to worry about. Some blinds become heavily soiled and depending on the material they are made from you will need to follow certain steps to ensure proper cleaning.

Cleaning Plastic Blinds

  1. First dust off your blinds.
  2. Fill your bathtub with warm water and take your blinds down from your window.
  3. Soak the blinds for at least one hour.
  4. Remove the blinds from the tub and wipe any remaining dust.
  5. Wipe dry or hang your blinds outside to air dry before putting them back on your window.

Cleaning Wood Blinds

  1. Dust off your blinds to start off first with a cloth then a vacuum if needed.
  2. Using a cleaner or microfiber cloth, start cleaning the wooden blinds. Wipe down one side with the cloth and cleaner then turn the blinds to clean the other side.

Popular Wallpaper Designs For Nurseries & Kids Rooms

Expecting a newborn is always an exciting and wonderful moment in a couple’s lives. You are bringing in a new life to this world that you will share memories and adventures with for years to come. An exciting aspect of having a child is setting up their nursery and room for when they are toddlers. When it comes to these types of rooms, bright, neutral, or soft colors come to mind to provide a welcoming atmosphere for the child. In addition to these colors, having wallpaper with unique patterns and designs helps bring that delightful atmosphere to fruition. Below are a few examples of wallpaper that are perfect for a nursery.

Wildlife Wallpaper

When it comes to decorating a child’s room you can never go wrong with animals and wildlife. Look for designs of cute furry animals and birds such as foxes, doves, sparrows flying in patterns, deer, bunnies, etc. Lulu and Georgia is a great example of a company that specializes in wallpaper designs perfect for nurseries or playrooms. What makes these types of patterns so welcoming is that you can find small animals that represent the youth and fragileness of your young one. Then as your children grow older the wallpaper will still suit them as they are young and could shape their interests.

Floral & Tropical Wallpaper

Another go-to wallpaper type for kids rooms and nurseries is that of floral patterns or tropical wallpapers. Like with animal design, floral and tropical patterns present a soft, warm and inviting aroma to the room that is great for making a room feel like “home” to the child. You can find bunches of different plant types to be the focus of your pattern such as roses, tulips, willow trees, almost any flower! If you would rather bring a “scene” to your child’s room then you can have tropical wallpaper. This way you have a variety of flowers, trees, maybe have animals, that when together they make a whole scene on the wall. Not only will it be different from the rest of the home’s interior design, but it will show character in your home and present a “hot spot” for guests to check out. ‘

interior design of a small living room

6 Tips For Decorating A Tiny Home

When it comes to decorating our homes and coming up with the perfect interior design, the size of the space you will be working in is something to consider. Depending on whether or not you have a lot of space determines the amount of decor you can get so that nothing looks crowded. You also don’t want to have a situation where you didn’t get enough decor and your space looks too spacious. To make sure that the design you come up with perfectly fits within the confines of your living space and looks amazing, we have mapped out six different tips to use when decorating for a small home.

6 Decorating Tips For A Tiny Home

Think Multipurpose

With limited space, you will need to think smart with the furniture and furnishing you plan on buying with your tiny home. The best route to take is to have every item in your smaller home serve dual functions because you will have multipurpose items that also assist with the overall decor. A great example of a dual-purpose item is buying an adorable small trunk to place on a bookcase that can hold candles, office supplies, medicine, etc. You should also look into benches, beds, or tables that double as a storage container or cabinet.

Be Selective

While there are tons of different kinds of decorations out there, multipurpose or not, you will want to make sure that you are selective when it comes to decorating a small space. Make sure each piece

you choose has the impact you want without adding clutter to your home. The same goes with items you already have; you have to be selective. Keeping items out of guilt is the first step to clutter so make sure you go through all your old items and truly let go of items you no longer need.

Using Versatile Pieces

Just like how you will want to have multipurpose items to add to your decor, finding versatile pieces are perfect to assist with your minimalism living in your tiny home. Start off by finding wall art or tapestries that have a different design on both sides. That way if you feel like changing things up, you don’t have to buy anything new. Some kitchen items you can use that are versatile is switching out tile art in a frame to freshen the look or to change with the seasons. Look into rubber mats with carpet centers that can be swapped out to fully embrace a season change without getting a new mat.

Go Big

The intriguing thing about decorating smaller spaces is the illusion of space. You would think that in a smaller space having several small items, to fix the room size, would be nice. However, you are better off having one large item accompanied by smaller items creates a better look rather than several smaller items grouped together. The look is a much cleaner and chic look and the large item can be a multipurpose item.

Embrace The Light

The downside to having a smaller living space is that you will not be exposed natural light as you will have fewer windows. For the windows that you do have, make sure that they are not being blocked by furniture or bulky window treatments so the natural light can flow into your home. In addition, you can also counter the dark with light colors in your interior design to brighten your space. Adding soft textures, and sand to white wallpaper is a great way to start. You should also help brighten up your room by adding a good amount of lighting options to your room using LED bulbs as they shine brighter while using lower amounts of energy.

Wall Space

The best thing you can do with tiny home decorating and overall interior designing is optimally using your wall space. With less space to work with, you will be looking for ways to hold all of your belongings together while also making your space your own and proper wall space decorating is your best bet. Just like we have been mentioning with every tip, take advantage of these ideas but doing so in a way as to not over clutter your home. Invest in hooks for your shopping bags, umbrellas, and coats, add shelving that holds baskets for items such as gloves and hats and use wall mounts to hang plants to add character in your room. You can use the wall space in your kitchen as well and save space in the cabinets by hanging your pots and pans.

There are endless ways you can add your own flair to the decor of your home no matter how big or small of a space you have. If you are interested in our wallpaper, window design, or interior design services, be sure to call us today for more information!

They are available in a range of styles and fabrics that can match your current decor. Soft window treatments refer to anything made of soft materials, including drapes, swags, valances, sheers, curtains, roman shades of any style. Soft window treatments have long been an interior design element and can elevate the look of your home’s interior. Let’s look at four benefits that these window treatments provide.

4 Benefits To Installing Soft Window Treatments

Customize Your Style

Having a little bit of your personal style or flavor in your home’s decor is always a plus. It adds a personal touch that can make things interesting. Soft window treatments come in a huge variety of fabric selection. Curtains and drapery can be found in any number of fabrics, making it possible to choose a window treatment that can allow you to customize your style and add some flare into your space. There are different colors, patterns, and textures to work with, which makes the possibilities plentiful. You can create interesting finishes and select interesting styles that mimic your unique self, such as being eclectic. You can make your design your own.

Minimize Outside Noise

You may not have thought about it, but soft window treatments could reduce outside disturbances from coming into your home. If you live next to a busy street, you may have trouble sleeping because of the noise from vehicles. Noises can also interfere with concentration, especially if you have a home office. Installing thicker, heavier curtains or drapes at your window can reduce noise levels. Today, some manufacturers make soundproof curtains from material such as velvet, satin, and polyester. These curtains work by absorbing echoes. You can rest better and improve concentration with noise blocking curtains.

Versatility

Window design can give a home a particular look and feel. There are many different styles of windows and there are soft window treatment options that are appropriate for each one. Soft window treatments are versatile and can match even the most unique window design. Whatever look you are going for, be it contemporary or rustic country, there is a soft window treatment out there.

Room Temperature Control

In many homes, there is heating and cooling loss through inadequate windows. This can be costly when the energy bills come around. This problem can be addressed by placing window treatments like thick drapes and curtains at the windows to block air from escaping and also block the sun’s rays from coming inside. This can help to minimize heating and cooling costs, which will allow you to keep more money in your pocket.

Soft window treatment can afford you comfort, functionality, and style. Visit your local window treatment service provider today and explore your options. What is the Difference Between Home Staging & Interior Design?

Often times when the discussion of home design comes up, there tends to be a misconception between home staging and interior design. While home staging is a type of home design, there is a difference between that and performing interior design. Home staging means to prepare a home for sale while interior design refers to the act of personalizing the design of a space.

What is Home Staging?

Home staging has a lot to do with the real estate industry as stagers try to assist sellers and agents on selling a home. The goal of a home stager is to emphasize the positive features of a house in order to make it a quick and profitable home selling experience. One way they will do this will be by bringing in more natural light to brighten up a room or arranging the furniture in a more inviting way. A lot of the times, home stagers will go with a neutral color palette for a home they are trying to sell so buyers can visualize their own ideas in their head when looking.

How a Home Stager Works with Wallpaper?

As mentioned before, to help potential buyers visualize their ideas, home stagers will probably go for a neutral color palette. What this means is that having bright or uniquely patterned wallpaper is probably something they won’t want to work with. They may opt to put a fresh coat of paint of the neutral color they have in mind.

What is Interior Design?

While a home stager makes a home presentable, an interior designer is responsible for making sure the owner’s personal style and aesthetic are applied within the functionality of everyday life. What this means is to basically add an owner’s personal touch and style to the decor of a room. They can customize furniture, tile, window treatments, and flooring to reflect the homeowner’s personal style.

How Does an Interior Designer Work With Wallpaper?

While a home stager will opt for paint over wallpaper, an interior designer will do the opposite. Designers encourage unique patterns and bold colors, so they will suggest a personalization with fun patterned wallpaper which incorporates well into an overall scheme.

With a change in the weather, it’s only appropriate to change the scenery to go with the spring season. There are plenty of spring decorating ideas around that can freshen up the appearance of a space. Here are five spring interior design ideas that can add vibrancy and beauty to your home.

Interior design isn’t complete with nature-inspired elements from prints to live plants. Much beauty is found in the natural world, and a touch of nature into your home design can create a natural, calm and relaxing atmosphere. 1. Fabulous Florals

It doesn’t quite feel like spring without the sights of flowers. Florally patterned accessories can jazz up a neutral room and give a space a fresh feel. Create the feel of spring with garden rugs that feature a garden trellis design, use hanging planters, geometric shape wall baskets to add a clever element to your spring home design and make flowers the main attraction in a space. Floral accessories can be eclectic, funky or elegant in design or arrangement.

  1. Pastel Lavender

If you want home interior design that can make a statement and create excitement and energy this spring, go for pastel lavender. While too much lavender can be loud and overpowering, this sophisticated neutral that can be exquisitely paired with other pastels and bright accent colors, like gold.

To express the brightness and freshness of spring, using white, a versatile neutral as a decor element is a great option. An interior designer would tell you that white on white is a simple way of maximizing the natural light in a space. Reflecting light, white give a room a brighter, lighter and airy feel. Think of playing with patterns when doing white on white, and how best to use rustic white, chippy white and vintage white.

Spring mint has made a comeback and is still the “it” color. Adding mint green in unexpected spaces like bathroom sinks and cabinets is a great way to transition from the cold season to one of growth and renewal. Mint green is crisp and soothing and is great for modern designs when used with decorative accessories, and when paired with marble accents and white.

How Window Treatments Can Brighten Up Your Home

With winter coming to a close and spring just around the corner should you consider changing your window treatment? With window design, many homeowners have seasonal soft widow treatment changes to brighten up their homes. Changing from darker heavy curtains to lighter and thinner material can make a huge difference in how your home feels this spring. Here a few ways you can design your window treatment for year-round success.

Transitioning to Treatmentless Windows

For many homeowners, removing all the curtains is the easiest way to change window treatment for the spring and summer and let the sunlight in. Removing your entire window treatment has some disadvantages though. Although it is relatively simple to just remove your heavy curtains and have open windows, there is a loss of privacy if there is no hard window treatment left. Also having no treatment can cause sun glare and sunlight damage to your furniture.

The Layered Hybrid Method

Owning soft window treatments layered with hard window treatments allows for seasonal versatility in window design. Hard window treatments refer to blinds and shutters whereas soft window treatments refer to stylistic curtains and accents you can hang over your hard window designs. Having a layered window treatment with a mix of shutters or blinds and curtains means that between seasons you can remove the curtains to drastically change how light enters your home season to season. The benefit of this style is that you own one window treatment year-round that can transform to let more light in, but you never sacrifice privacy or risk damaging your furniture with sun-damage.

Multiple Treatments

Though many homeowners prefer the hybrid method, some homeowners choose to own multiple treatments for seasonal changes. A benefit of this decision is that your home can look drastically different season to season. In the hybrid method, most homeowners own simplistic hard window treatments because they have to exist year-round. Simplistic white blinds can be a bit boring but are necessary if you are going to keep them up year round. Choosing to own multiple treatments allows owners to have really stylistic and colorful hard window treatments during the winter because they are changed out in the spring. This option is best for people who like the style of their home to fluctuate during the year.

Whether you want to own multiple window treatments or like a simple layout look, it is always smart to talk to interior design specialists to get the best ideas, home design trends, and proper installations for your home. At American Wallpaper we have a large collection of options that will work for any home in any season.
